  • North Third Reservoir Walk

North Third Reservoir Walk is a peaceful, easy-to-moderate countryside stroll just outside Stirling, centred around the quiet waters of North Third Reservoir and the surrounding woodland and farmland. It’s a great “get some fresh air” route when you want something calmer than the city paths—expect birdsong, open views and a real sense of space, especially on clearer days.

The walk typically follows a mix of well-made tracks and narrower paths, with mixed gradients with steep climb to crag. You’ll often get lovely outlooks across the Carse and towards the Ochil Hills, and the reservoir itself is a highlight: still water, reed beds and plenty of chances to spot waterfowl. In wetter months some sections can be muddy, so decent footwear is a good idea even if the distance is fairly short.

This is a popular area for dog walking and relaxed weekend wandering, but it’s also working countryside—so stick to marked paths, leave gates as you find them and keep dogs under close control (on a lead if livestock are present or if signage requests it). Take your litter home and if you’re visiting at dawn or dusk, consider a head torch for the shadier woodland stretches.

Overall, North Third Reservoir Walk is ideal for a low-stress loop: scenic without being too strenuous, close to Stirling and rewarding in every season—fresh spring greens, summer reflections on the water, autumn colour in the trees and crisp winter skies when the air is clear.
